Capturing the authentic moment takes place in a split second. Creating the space for that moment to occur happens long before the Camera comes. Something I learnt from my friend and fellow Photographer Elin Robinson is that the initial conversation with my client is critical to rapport and trust being created between us. This conversation is all about synergy - I take the photograph, however, my client willingly gives me that moment of magic. What do I mean willingly? It's simple. My client is totally relaxed and free in her self expression. In fact, she has forgotten there is a Camera in front of her. These images are of my friend Chris's partner, Irene, a professional Nurse. Yes, even Nurses need a classy headshot for this Business Market place. If a Nurse is willing to take this bold step to create an image which projects Confidence, Approachability, Compassion and a feeling that you can trust her then I encourage you to consider what a Photographic Sessions with me can do for you and your business. Irene was delightful to work with and she fell right into my direction and posing suggestions to get the best light and angles for capture.
I would welcome the opportunity to create an authentic expression of you, please don't hesitate, make contact and let's create some magic with my camera. My goal is to give you my best ability and hopefully give you some images that you will fall in love with. Contact me HERE

One of the things I am striving for in my photography is capturing the essence of my clients. What is this illusive essence? My instincts tell me it is the authentic spirit of a man or women that the camera captures in a split second. This authentic expression can only be revealed for my camera if my client is relaxed, comfortable and they trust me implicitly. The key word is trust. Another way of looking at this is establishing rapport with my clients long before the camera comes out to play. Open, warm, confident and yet approachable Rapport is the magical ingredient that makes any relationship work. It is the glue that binds all of humanity. It is caring, loving, being vulnerable, feeling safe and relaxed to be our true natural authentic selves. I have photograph a lot of people this year and I have noticed the subtle shifts in "being" when my clients get in front of my camera. My job is to bring my clients to a point of total relaxed freedom and self expression. I love this moment, This is the moment when I hit the shutter button and capture that magical expression. Sometimes, it can be a still moment, like in Daniella's eyes. I must be honest and say, I love photographing women. All woman to me are beautiful, and my impression of beauty goes way beyond the cosmetics and DNA. I am always looking and being open to experiencing a woman's true athutentic inner beauty. This inner expression is a wonderful thing to capture. I love Daniella's eyes and stillness, I find this very attractive. Day Day is totally at ease in front of the lens Connecting with my clients is very important to me, this creates a foundation upon which we can collaborate and build a great photographic experience. The final images are the icing on the cake. When I look at the images I have shot since the start of this year it encourages me even more to give of my best. If you would like to arrange a photographic session with me, please get in touch. I look forward to our conversation and serving you.
Fuji, Magic and Beauty My view of the world has transformed since I began my photographic journey and education. This has taken place on many levels, both externally and my inner transformation - which is an on going process. The most significant thing has been how my view of the world now occurs within the frame of 35mm. This means, there is a shot or photographic opportunity everywhere. Being ready, camera in hand has become my daily habit. This new approach to my life had opened up some amazing experiences over the last four years. Last Saturday, I met up with my buddy Jin Lee - he was in town for my appearance in “Late Night Magic with Julian James” at The Jermyn Street Theatre the night before. We decided to meet up and talk cards, magic and our usual love of photography. Our session was great, card magic is our first passion and we always have great conversations on this topic. During our session, I noticed a very attractive lady, preparing some tables. Her name was Claudette and I asked her what she was doing. She told me she was part of Miss London. We had a good exchange and I asked if they were models to which she replied yes. This was a perfect opportunity to share that Jin and I were both Photographers and Magicians. As the afternoon went by, one attractive lady after another entered the area for their interview. It made my day, cards, magic and glamorous models in the house. As it happened, I ended up showing a few of the girls a few cards effects and they allowed us to take their photographs. I came away with some great shots, as did Jin ©Jin Lee Photography ©Jin Lee Photography One lady in particular was fabulous - her name was Day Day - isn't that a wonderful name. We had a great exchange and she allowed me to shoot her portrait. I have to say, this girl has world at her feet. Keep in mind; this shoot was totally off the cuff, impromptu armed with my little Fuji, not my big ass Nikon and Flash. Forget about it, this is a straight out of camera Jpeg with some Lightroom, Photoshop and Portrait Pro adjustments. This shot is a magical experience and it communicates, confidence, approachability, grace, warmth, charm and class. Day Day, has a gorgeous spirit and she WILL do herself proud in this industry of modelling. I wish her well on her journey. As for this experience, my passion for my craft in magic and photography have collapsed into a God given privilege which has supported me throughout my life. Losing my hearing two years ago presented me with a huge challenge.
Adjusting to life with virtually no sound has been tough. Magic and Photography has kept me focused on making a difference, being effective and productive in life. Thanks to Jin Lee for some of the images and to Claudette, Day Day and the rest of the girls for making last Saturday so much fun. This post is inspired by my most recent photo shoot with a delightful and entrepreneurial young lady Kulvinder Jhali. We enjoyed a great afternoon shooting on Primorse Hill yesterday and came away with some memorable shots, which is the whole point. Afterwards, I speculated on the success of the shoot and pondered what makes a successful photo shoot? I have been studying the work of Scott Kelby and Headshot Master Peter Hurley and they have both said that "RAPPORT" is the key. Allow me to elaborate on this; in communication, the success of any interaction will be in proportion to the level of authenticity and rapport that exist between both parties. When applied to photography and a photo shoot, I got present to the fact that the success of the shoot takes place long before the shutter button is pressed. I want to acknowledge my friend and fellow shooter Elin Robbinson - we did a shoot recently with me being the "subject" and we spoke in a coffee shop for about an hour getting related. This was in my mind for my shoot with Kulvinder, We spoke for about hour, learning about each other and just enjoying "being" in each others company. The photography become secondary to the shoot. In fact, the shoot became a success because I was at ease and Kulvinder was at ease as we walked and I shot her against the back drop of Primrose Hill and nature. I am dleihgted to share that she loved the images and for my first professional engagement as The Magical Photographer, I couldn't be happier with this outcome.
One thing I learnt from Peter Hurley - don't ever let your client leave the session without getting the shot you are after. This is profound, it implies that the shoot and its success is down to the photographer. I am responsible for taking care of my clients, ensuring their well being and also directing them so that I can capture them at their very best. If my client is at ease and relaxed, then they will trust me and allow me the privilege of directing them and posing them in relationship to the light and capturing the magic of their authentic expression. This is the real magic - below is one my favourite image of Kulvinder from our shoot. I say "our shoot" because it was a team effort and magical collaboration. |
