Capturing the authentic moment takes place in a split second.

Creating the space for that moment to occur happens long before the Camera comes.

Something I learnt from my friend and fellow Photographer Elin Robinson is that the initial conversation with my client is critical to rapport and trust being created between us. This conversation is all about synergy - I take the photograph, however, my client willingly gives me that moment of magic.

What do I mean willingly?
It's simple.
My client is totally relaxed and free in her self expression.
In fact, she has forgotten there is a Camera in front of her.

Yes, even Nurses need a classy headshot for this Business Market place.

One of the things I am striving for in my photography is capturing the essence of my clients.

What is this illusive essence?

My instincts tell me it is the authentic spirit of a man or women that the camera captures in a split second. This authentic expression can only be revealed for my camera if my client is relaxed, comfortable and they trust me implicitly.

The key word is trust.

Another way of looking at this is establishing rapport with my clients long before the camera comes out to play.

Rapport is the magical ingredient that makes any relationship work. It is the glue that binds all of humanity. It is caring, loving, being vulnerable, feeling safe and relaxed to be our true natural authentic selves. I have photograph a lot of people this year and I have noticed the subtle shifts in "being" when my clients get in front of my camera. My job is to bring my clients to a point of total relaxed freedom and self expression. I love this moment, This is the moment when I hit the shutter button and capture that magical expression.

I must be honest and say, I love photographing women.

All woman to me are beautiful, and my impression of beauty goes way beyond the cosmetics and DNA.

I am always looking and being open to experiencing a woman's true athutentic inner beauty. This inner expression is a wonderful thing to capture. I love Daniella's eyes and stillness, I find this very attractive.

Connecting with my clients is very important to me, this creates a foundation upon which we can collaborate and build a great photographic experience. The final images are the icing on the cake.

When I look at the images I have shot since the start of this year it encourages me even more to give of my best.

​Fuji, Magic and Beauty
 
My view of the world has transformed since I began my photographic journey and education. This has taken place on many levels, both externally and my inner transformation - which is an on going process.
 
The most significant thing has been how my view of the world now occurs within the frame of 35mm.  This means, there is a shot or photographic opportunity everywhere. Being ready, camera in hand has become my daily habit.
 
This new approach to my life had opened up some amazing experiences over the last four years.

We decided to meet up and talk cards, magic and our usual love of photography.
Our session was great, card magic is our first passion and we always have great conversations on this topic. During our session, I noticed a very attractive lady, preparing some tables. Her name was Claudette and I asked her what she was doing. She told me she was part of Miss London. We had a good exchange and I asked if they were models to which she replied yes. This was a perfect opportunity to share that Jin and I were both Photographers and Magicians.

As for this experience, my passion for my craft in magic and photography have collapsed into a God given privilege which has supported me throughout my life. Losing my hearing two years ago presented me with a huge challenge.

Adjusting to life with virtually no sound has been tough.

Magic and Photography has kept me focused on making a difference, being effective and productive in life.

This post is inspired by my most recent photo shoot with a delightful and entrepreneurial young lady Kulvinder Jhali.  

We enjoyed a great afternoon shooting on Primorse Hill yesterday and came away with some memorable shots, which is the whole point.

Afterwards, I speculated on the success of the shoot and pondered what makes a successful photo shoot?  

I have been studying the work of Scott Kelby and Headshot Master Peter Hurley and they have both said that "RAPPORT" is the key.

Allow me to elaborate on this; in communication, the success of any interaction will be in proportion to the level of authenticity and rapport that exist between both parties.  When applied to photography and a photo shoot, I got present to the fact that the success of the shoot takes place long before the shutter button is pressed.

I want to acknowledge my friend and fellow shooter Elin Robbinson - we did a shoot recently with me being the "subject" and we spoke in a coffee shop for about an hour getting related. This was in my mind for my shoot with Kulvinder, We spoke for about hour, learning about each other and just enjoying "being" in each others company. The photography become secondary to the shoot. In fact, the shoot became a success because I was at ease and Kulvinder was at ease as we walked and I shot her against the back drop of Primrose Hill and nature.
